Trabajamos Community Head Start Job Description

Job Title: Custodian
Division: All Sites
Reports To: Program Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Responsible for maintaining the center premises and its equipment in a clean, safe, and comfortable condition by performing the following job duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Follows specific work schedule provided by the director to indicate specific responsibilities and time schedule for completion.*

2. Cooperates in total staff effort to improve the center's seNice.*

3. Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors of classrooms, offices, halls, kitchen, and bathrooms of center so that they are kept in clean and sanitary condition.*

4. Washes and disinfects all bathrooms including fixtures, urinals, toilets, washbowls, and wall tile.*

5. Keeps inventory of sanitary supplies, preparing requisitions forms when supplies are needed.*

6. Unpacks and stores supplies.*

7. Cleans stairs, walks, play yards, and roof as needed.*

8. Cleans light fixtures and replaces light bulbs.*

9. Moves children's equipment and furniture to and from outdoor/indoor play space.*

10. Cleans and maintains outdoor perimeter surrounding building, including but not limited to, shoveling of snow.*

11. Prepares trash for municipal collection, adhering to waste removal guidelines and schedules for example recycling and flattening boxes.*

12. Completes daily, weekly, and monthly health and safety checklists.*

13. Conducts regular security checks such as all points of entry, windows, doors, and makes status report to the director.*

14. Performs landscaping tasks such as removing overgrown weeds.*

15. Communicates with external visiting agencies conducting health and safety inspectations.*

16. Monitors smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, replacing batteries when needed.*

17. Dusts and washes down walls as needed.

18. Repairs and paints play equipment and furniture as needed.

19. Makes other repairs in center when necessary.

20. Assists with food service distribution as needed.

21. Cleans range hood weekly and tri-monthly.

22. Places and picks up cots, keeping cots clean as needed.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:
• CPR/First aid
• Child abuse
• Infectious disease
• Certificates of fitness such as F01, S95, and F03

Equipment:
• Floor buffer/waxing machine
• Vacuum cleaners dry/wet
• Snow blower

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to trash- both recyclable and rubbish. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non­ weather), vibration, bodily fluids, including but not limited to blood borne pathogens and possible exposure to toxic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
