Job Title: Lead Teacher Department: Classroom Reports To: Site Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Responsible for the administration of sound early childhood education practices by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Develops and implements a curriculum, reflective of program goals, objectives, and philosophies.*

2. Organizes, arranges, and maintains safe and healthy learning environment.*

3. Models appropriate behavior/language.*

4. Attains knowledge of each child through observation, assessments, and interactions.*

5. Encourages awareness of cultural differences.*

6. Displays knowledge of early childhood development.*

7. Actively supervises children in care.*

8. Individually plans for each child based on knowledge of each child.*

9. Implements and actively participates in large/gross motor activities which children.*

10. Observes confidentiality of students, parents, and program.*

11. Responsible for being proficient with computers/technology such as laptops, smart boards, tablets.*·

12. Establishes an atmosphere that builds positive self-concepts, respect for differences in individuals, and positive interactions.*

13. Encourages the development of independence, whereby children can function in group activities.*

14. Responsible for being proficient in inputting data into Teaching Strategy Gold software.*

15. Supervises classroom team as well as encourages initiative, cooperative planning, and utilizes reflective supervision techniques and concrete suggestions for improvement, and fairly delegates responsbilities.*

16. Establishes and maintains regular team meetings between classroom and family worker.*

17. Attends staff meetings, committee meetings, training sessions, and parent meetings whenever necessary.*

18. Demonstrates awareness of and adheres to program policies and procedures.*

19. Remains open to director/supervisor positive suggestions and/or constructive criticism.*

20. Establishes and maintains communication between the classroom and home, emphasizing strong school/family relations.*

21. Arranges periodic parent conferences to share information and updates on a child's development and behavior.*

22. Displays knowledge of drafting lessons using Teaching Strategies software.*

23. Remains familiar with mandated state standards and regulations, such as article 47 and Head Start Performance Standards."

24. Performs based on and adheres to mandated state standards.*

25. Follows programs procedures for reporting personal lateness, absence, and sickness.*

26. Demonstrates time management skills, meeting time sensitive deadlines.*

27. Gathers and documents anecdotes/observations in unbiased, objective manner.*

28. Responsible for being aware of creative curriculum rational and practice.*

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, and Teaching Strategies Gold.

Education/Experience:
Master's degree (M. A. / M. S.) or equivalent; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• NY State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood/Childhood Education
• Infectious disease
• Child abuse and maltreatment
• CPR
